Album Cover Shoot – Illawarra Photography

Shot a while ago as an album cover for the Australian Institute of Music graduate and musician, Matt Thistlethwaite.

A guitar teacher and emerging music artist, Matt wanted to go out with something simple, relaxing and most importantly, to reflect his own style of music.

He insisted on playing his guitar and listening to sweet sounds of a classical tone colour. (Yes I did listen in music class – tone colour is the ‘tonality’ and character of the sound/instrument) So with the help of his brother holding a speedlight/flash on my left angled down at 30 degrees to Matt’s head, we go this! Shazam! 🙂

The bird does it for me 🙂 ..had to dodge and burn the clouds slightly to give it a bit of contrast, brought in with a high pass filter on an overlay layer in photoshop to give it a little more punch as well. Still sticking to Matt’s instructions of simple I find it still to be one of my favourite shots.

An Ep will be released soon by Matt, you should listen to his stuff.. he’s actually quite talented! If you were looking to stick to a more traditional style of reception music, he’s your man. I think he sleeps with his guitar next to him :s .. no joke.
